BookSmack is a place to talk about books and everything related to books. Book quotes, book series, book movies, music that reminds us of books – anything and everything literary related!
BookSmack also aims to break down traditional boundaries to the literary world, namely through the open submissions literary magazine and by promoting local Edmonton writers.
The site was forged from two literary nerds having a heated debate about which YA series was the most transformative, and the *smack* of a book hitting the table.

A.K.R (she/her) is a writer born and raised in Edmonton. After spending several years freelancing as a writer for prominent media sites, she took a more local approach, writing copy and content for local businesses and co-running a creative writing and media workshop for anyone willing to learn.
Apart from running and editing this site, A.K.R is also currently pursuing her Master’s in Arts – Interdisciplinary Studies, with a dual focus area in Cultural Studies and Writing and New Media. She is especially interested in how minorities are represented across media – a passion that arose from books!

A.K.R. hopes to expand the literary world through her work and also to help Edmonton expand on its local creative talent. Her first step towards that goal is making this website, where local writers and creators can showcase their work through submissions to the open-access digital magazine.

A.K.R. loves talking about anything media-related, with her personal favorite topics being anything pertaining to Bollywood, Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga, Glee, the MCU and, of course, the original cinematic masterpiece: Shrek.
